Sagnac interferometer

The Sagnac interferometer is ideal for investigating the rotational and motion dependencies of interference patterns. It impressively illustrates the so-called Sagnac effect, which plays a central role in the functioning of modern laser gyroscopes. In the classroom, the experiment can be used in the context of interference, wave propagation, or relativity theory, for example, to clearly demonstrate the effect of motion on light.

On this page you will find all information about the structure and speacial features of the modular Sagnac interferometer as well as working materials for use in the classroom.
